World-class tennis returned to the Dallas Metroplex last December as U.S. Open Champion Andy Roddick and ATP Tour star Taylor Dent held court at the Dr. Pepper Star Center in Frisco, TX. The one-night event opened with three tiebreak shootouts between four of Dallas' top club pros, the state's top wheelchair tennis players and players from University of Texas and Texas A&M.
The feature match pitted two of the game's biggest guns against each other: Andy Roddick - owner of the fastest serve ever recorded (155 mph during a Davis Cup match against Belarus in 2004) - and Taylor Dent, who blasted a 144-mph serve at Wimbledon in 2001. Both players used the occasion as an opportunity to give back to the game. Roddick donated 100 percent of his proceeds to ITF junior tennis and Taylor Dent co-hosted a wine tasting event at Dallas' famous Mercy Wine Bar to benefit the National Junior Tennis league, an Arthur Ashe legacy program.
